REMEMBER THE LOVE
2011 Edit
Photographs by Michael Rieger
It was early 2011 when I began to think about the tenth anniversary of 9/11. I knew I wanted to create an exhibition with photos and sculptures that reflected my experience at Ground Zero. I started with a completely new edit of the photographs. Many images that I had passed over - thinking they were not very strong - began to draw my attention. Then I realized what was wrong: they were black and white images shot in color. I removed the color and the photos came to life. Once again I was with the Urban Search and Rescue teams climbing through the rubble, photographing the faces of Ground Zero.
I want to tell the story of how people put their difference aside and came together to get things done, how everyone looked out for each other and took care of each other. I want to remember the love.
